Teachers training workshops on RTE, Corporal punishment & Bullying at taluka level

Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights as a part of its implementation & monitoring of RTE has started series of workshops in the 12 talukas of Goa. This is conducted from the grant from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The workshop covers RTE and corporal punishment and bullying to primary teachers of Govt. and aided schools across twelve talukas.

Corporal punishment in schools is a major issue till date. Children are future of our nation and needs supervision and discipline in their school curriculum. The environment should be friendly and nurturing to the needs of the child. Teachers play a very important role as a second parent during school hours. Positive discipline and fearless approach for students is very important. Bullying is also important part in schooling. Many children are targets of bullying in school. Cyber bullying is also taken a large toll. It is not only physical abuse but emotional and psychological abuse of students in school needs to be addressed.

Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has been very active in creating awareness amongst parents and teachers as well as students on various aspects of child rights. Corporal punishment and laws related to children for PTA of primary schools in both the districts was already conducted in the past. Corporal punishment workshop for headmasters of all schools across Goa was done last year under the same grant from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

The resource person for this workshops are Shri Suhas Thakur Desai, State Coordinator for SSA & Ms. Falguni Shaikh. Block coordinator for SSA for RTE and Adv. Emidio Pinho, coordinator SCAN Goa and Ms. Prachi Khandeparkar, Member of GSCPCR.

The workshop is already started from 22nd January, 2018 and the first workshop was at Sattari where 201 teachers attended the same.

Second workshop was at Ponda on 23rd January, 2018 and 181 teachers participated in the workshop.

Third workshop was at Pernem on 24th January, 2018 and 195 teachers participated in the workshop.

 

The series will continue will 23th Feb, 2018.
